Le Race has some extremely fast down hills, tricky descents and slippery cattle stops. In the best interests of rider safety, competitors must have their bikes and helmets safety-checked. Pre-race safety checks are available from Cycle Surgery between 1st and 22nd March.
Race Pack pick-up is Friday 22nd March, 11:00am-6:00pm at Miles Continental (70 Tuam Street, Christchurch Central).
NOTE: Out of town competitors can collect their race packs on race day. Please allow an extra 30 minutes for this.
The finish line is in Akaroa and make sure you collect your Dole Bananas and Pure rehydration drink on finishing. You can relax in the Domain until the prize-giving at 2.00pm. Make sure you're there to be in to win one of our major spot prizes including a chance to experience a Road Cycling Tour thanks to Global Adventure Guide.
Le Race Petite will have a finish line at Wairewa Pa Road and prizegiving at Little River Domain.
If you are parking at the Hill Top Tavern please be very mindful this is private car park and for those who want to visit the Tavern not just for Le Race supporters – please do not use their toilets unless you are buying something, please be very mindful that we are allowed to use their car park for a short time – it'd be great if you would support them by buying coffee or food.
Compulsory Equipment – all competitors must wear a New Zealand safety standards approved cycling helmet.
Recommended Equipment – you need to take adequate fluid and food sufficient for the duration of the race. You also need to take adequate clothing suitable for the conditions (which can change rapidly), and you need to be prepared to carry out your own repairs, so make sure you carry a spare tube, bike pump, and tools.
There will be drink stations situated at the change over station at Little River and Millers, Hill Top and Okains Bay Road – all self service - and at the finish area.
The event takes place on public roads that will be open to other road users. The roads are narrow in places, and at all times you must keep left and obey the road rules. No support vehicles are allowed on the Summit Road section of the course.
Because you asked for it and deserve it! Yes, you can now have a hot shower after the event. They will cost $2 and this will be run as a fundraising activity by the Akaroa community. Please note BYO towel.

We can organise transport to take both you and your bike back to Christchurch after Le Race to give your weary legs a break. Book your ride home at time of entry. $50 for you and the Bike travelling in a chartered van with individual bike holders. No scratches guarantee.
So how do I get involved with this? Simply book your accommodation (above), Enter Le Race click here and tick the $5 bag to Akaroa, and Bag back, as well as the "Yes i would like to bunch ride home." We will gather up the numbers and get ready for a Tres bien idea. All bags to be dropped off at the start line.
Drafting is permitted
Electronic timing will be used for Le Race. All competitors will be issued with a Timing Chip / Transponder at Race Pack Pick Up.
Le Race may be cancelled in the case of extreme weather. If the event is cancelled there will be no reimbursement of entry fees.
Please note, you will need to supply your own transport between both the Millers Road and Little River Change Station to the finish line.
The team from Sportsmed will be down at Akaroa Domain to give massages after the event. There will be 4 massage therapists, the cost of $20 for 20mins (cash only). Please make sure you wait for an hour after you have finished the event for maximum results.
